For day 4, we’re looking at The Gathering Place, a service centre that provides help to people who don’t have adequate social support.

The Gathering Place

I’m not the only one to talk about The Gathering Place in recent days. This holiday season, their need is pretty dire. At least 1,200 gift bags have been ordered, but they’re still waiting for donations to fill the majority of the orders. According to the VOCM article, the number of guests The Gathering Place is seeing has doubled since last year. Many of them need basic necessities such as toiletries, socks, winter hats, and gloves.

The Gathering Place serves a clientele similar to the St. John’s Status Of Women Council. The difference is that The Gathering Place is open to both women and men over the age of 25 who need help to make ends meet. Along with the gift bags they put together, they offer meals, clothing supplies, and social programs. They also have partnerships throughout the community to offer services such as healthcare and social work.

If you would like to give to The Gathering Place, there are several ways to do so!

On their website, you can donate to specific services they offer, such as medical care, personal care, and general care. They have a Canada Helps page that you can donate to. You can also bring a cheque to their location, or mail it to them at:

Last but not least, you can call them at 709-753-3234  and they can take your donation over the phone!

If you’d rather bring them the physical items they need, you can drop them off from Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 4:30, and Saturdays between 10:00 and 1:00.
