Day three of our vacation started with a trip into Day three of our vacation started with a trip into Grand Bank for some wandering before heading to Fortune to catch the ferry. We got coffee at @dippedcafe (which I fell in love with) and then visited the George C. Harris House and Mariners' Memorial Garden. Our lovely tour guide was very knowledgeable and easy to chat with, and we even got to climb to the widow's walk on the top of the house. We wandered the beach for a bit, and after chatting with a local gentleman, we visited Sarah-Ray's Place for lunch.

We then caught the ferry in Fortune, and I was endlessly thankful that my hoarding habits meant at the bottom of my purse were the seasickness bracelets my Dad had bought me over a decade ago. Once we arrived, Pascal, the owner of Auberge Quatre Temps picked us up and brought us to our accommodations. After checking in, we had a beautiful meal in their restaurant: I had chicken curry, Liam had the beef cheek, and we shared a panna cotta with fresh raspberries.

Once dinner was said and done, we set out to explore the town at night. It's funny that so many visitors to Newfoundland get a European vibe from our little province, because in wandering the streets of St. Pierre, I felt like I was seeing the best of both in one little place. The streets were mostly quiet, but near the Auberge, we met a welcoming committee: two sweet cats who were happy to say hello and follow us for ear scritches.

After our walk, we packed it in for an early night. With only one full day to enjoy the town, the next day was going to be a long (and happy!) one.

On day two of our trip, we had one goal: dinner at On day two of our trip, we had one goal: dinner at Tom's Roadhouse in @smugglerscoveroadhouse for a hearty feed. So we headed into the town of Burin for an afternoon wander in the mean time. We walked the boardwalk along the bay, which has incredible views. Then we dropped into @theswinginglantern for a little snack, taking in the view from their back patio.

After our snack, we checked out the Bank of Nova Scotia Museum, which has three floors of fascinating artifacts, as well as a variety of locally made crafts. We did some more wandering around, admiring some of the beautiful homes in the area (like the English-cottage-looking spot in the fourth picture) and briefly chatting with some locals.

In the early evening we made our way to Smugglers Cove, which was surprisingly bumping for a weekday. But we were easily seated, and our meal was unreal. I had a brisket sandwich and Liam had a plate of ribs. We found it reasonably priced, especially for the portion sizes, and we left our table incredibly satisfied with everything we ate.

After our meal, we spent some time wandering the grounds. Along with the restaurant, Smugglers Cove is built to resemble an old Western town. Some of the building faces are fake, but in some of them you can find sweet treats, games, and more. There's also a stage for musical performances.

Once darkness started to fall, we headed back to our cabin for one more campfire and some smores before embarking on our next adventure the following morning.

Our biggest goal for our vacation to the Burin Pen Our biggest goal for our vacation to the Burin Peninsula and St. Pierre et Miquelon was for it to be as relaxed as possible. With the exception of one or two things, we didn't have any real goals and just set out to have fun.

On our first day, we forwent the typical Goobies food stop in favour of The Tea Rose near Boat Harbour. We visited last fall without eating, and we knew we had to come back. With a simple menu of homemade fare and lots of adorable decor, it was a perfect lunch spot. We each had a sandwich and shared a chips, dressing, and gravy. They used potato coins, which I thought was neat and very tasty. There is also a gift shop in the same building, with tons of homemade clothing, toys, art, and more, all done by locals.

After lunch we headed to the Grand Fairways Resort Cottages in Frenchman's Cove. We spent some time sitting on the beautiful beach, which is right across the street. We had a quick BBQ (with salad from our @rootsfarmnl weekly veggie bag) and finish the night with a campfire. I'm not much of a drinker, so I subbed in a @bannermanbrewingco watermelon soda, and it hit the spot perfectly. Then we rested up for day two!

I know this is going to sound bananas, but hear me I know this is going to sound bananas, but hear me out.

I just published a new blog.

Last summer I spent some time in the incredible community of @battleharbour and I was enthralled. This one took me a while to put together because it was hard to compress everything I wanted to say into something that one could read in a single sitting. And then there was the process of choosing pictures! But I got the job done, and now you can read all about it.

The link is in bio!

Another year of Dish Granted, another year of Liam Another year of Dish Granted, another year of Liam knocking it out of the park. This year, I asked for mac and cheese.

(For those unaware, Dish Granted is our alternative to birthday gifts, inspired by the @wearewatcher show. The birthday person requests their ideal dish on Thursday night, the cook has roughly 48 hours to shop for and cook an elevated version of the dish. Shoutout to @stevenkwlim for the incredible idea.)

Liam hand made pasta (using my favourite chili oil in the dough for a hint of flavour) and made the sauce using three cheddars, gruyere, roasted garlic, and high quality butter. The dish had three topping sections: one Hawkins cheezies, one Ruffles, and one Cool Ranch. The casserole itself was baked in a brie rind.

On the side, he had burrata, marinated olives, and garlic bread made from a @terre_restaurant loaf (all of which came from @punch.bowl as well as some of the casserole cheeses, so huge shoutout to them!)

He even made me an aquavit sour using @thenewfoundlanddistilleryco aquavit, a homemade basil syrup, and whey from the burrata. He also included a vanilla Coke because he knows it's my fave.

This is definitely the best tradition and I'm so lucky to have a fella who puts so much thought and heart into the dishes he makes me (and knows to shop local when he can). ❤️

A perfect meal to preface my birthday tomorrow!

In the meantime, I wanted to show off this fabulous "Less Pity, More Ramps" shirt from @makewavescollective in collaboration with @damselinadress.blog for accessibility awareness! I recommend checking out their awesome collection of socially conscious designs and adding some to your closet. This is one of the comfiest shirts I've ever owned!

She's wearing a pink cardigan, purple plaid skirt, black sunglasses with white polka dots, and a black shirt that says "Less Pity" in yellow-outlined letters and "More Ramps" in teal-outlined letters. The words are surrounded by white flowers on top.
