We’ve all heard the saying: Christmas is a time of giving.
But it’s also a time of need for many, many people. After talking with Jennifer about causes we’ve given to and causes we wish we could give to, I decided that the least I can do is spread the word! So for the next 12 days, I’m going to share 12 charities that are in need this season.
If there’s a charity you would like to add, feel free to leave it in the comments!
If everyone who reads this gives just a little bit, we can make a surprising difference this Christmas season.
For day one of 12 Charities For Christmas, we’re looking at Christmas Diaper Drop by WaterWerks Communication.
Christmas Diaper Drop
Diapers are essential for families with young children. But as the website points out, 1 in 5 families can barely afford them. This is the seventh year for the Christmas Diaper Drop, and in the past, they have collected over 350,000 diapers for families in Newfoundland and Labrador.
How great is that!
So why diapers? Well, I’ll quote straight from their about section:
A 2013 study proved that diaper need has an impact on the health and overall well-being of both babies and parents. It’s a serious community concern. It affects parents who struggle to afford diapers and face maternal stress and depression, which can harm a child’s development and cause lifelong problems. It affects babies who suffer rash and infection when they have to sit in the same soiled diaper for too long.
Diapers alone can cost over $70 a month for a family. But we can help lift that financial stress!
This year, WaterWerks is aiming for 75,000 diapers. As of writing this, they have just over 8,600. You can donate straight on the Christmas Diaper Drop website (it even tells you how many diapers your donation buys!) or head to one of their designated drop off sites.
The best part? When you go to their website, you’ll see adorable babies dressed up in holiday clothes!
See you tomorrow for charity number 2!
